Coils are found in refrigeration equipment including those used in supermarkets and restaurants. It is not uncommon to find hundreds of “through-the-wall” fan coil units in a hotel, dormitory or apartment building. As the air moving over the coils contains dust, dirt, pollen, moisture and other contaminants, the coils get dirty and become less efficient. In addition, the evaporator coil and its condensate pan can become fouled with pollen, mold spores and other biocontaminants that can have adverse effects on indoor air quality. If not maintained, the moisture around the evaporator coil can become a breeding ground for bacteria and mold.
A coil fouled with dirt and grime cannot supply proper heat transfer and results in greater energy consumption. Equipment operating with dirty coils can use up to 37% more energy than those with clean coils. Additionally, a dirty system’s cooling capacity can be reduced by as much as 30%. Dirty coils increase operating pressure and temperatures that breakdown the compressor’s lubricant and can result in equipment failure. A failed compressor means no cooling and costly repair.
FINS: Die-formed, plate type. The tempered aluminum or copper fins are easily cleaned and damage resistant. Extruded fin collars provide maximum heat transfer and accurate fin spacing. Other fin materials are available.
TUBES: Our custom coils offer seamless drawn copper tubes. The tubes are hydraulically expanded into the fins to form a permanent metal-to-metal bond for maximum heat transfer and stability. A variety of tube materials and wall thicknesses are available to meet special requirements.
BRAZING: All copper joints are hand-brazed with silver–bearing copper brazing alloys (this ensures our custom coils or replacement coils are perfected).
CLEANING: All custom coils and replacement coils are degreased to clean and dry them internally and externally.
TESTING: All custom coils and replacement coils are leak-tested under water with dry nitrogen. After testing, the coils are sealed for shipment.
We reserve the right to change specifications without notice.
Standard coil casings are designed to protect the tubes, fins and headers during shipment and handling. Tube holes are die-formed extrusions, providing maximum tube support. The standard casing material used is 16 gauge galvanized steel. Optional aluminum, copper and stainless steel casings are available.
